Obituary for William Norman Redfern Evans

William (Bill) Evans

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bill. Devoted husband, father and papa. Predeceased by his mother Violet, and father Bill Sr. Bill is survived by his wife and best friend Joan, his children Donna (Yin), David (Helen), Laura (Joe), Christine (Blair), Stephen (Sheryl) and Colleen (Lisa); his brother Ken (Sharon), nephew Rob (Tracey) and his Aunt Joyce (Ray) and special friends Lyle and Susan. Also left to mourn and be comforted by beautiful memories of their Papa’s love are Katlyn, Tom, Hailey, Taylor, Kyle, Erin, Correen, Allan, Vanessa Joshua, Emily, and Nicole.

Bill was born at St Paul’s Hospital on March 26, 1941 with a childhood filled with a love of music that spilled over into his entire life. He was extremely proud of the 33 years he spent working in the engineering area of the Vancouver Parks Board and contributed to many of our parks’ landmarks, including the Seawall. Bill retired early and made use of every moment of it on their many adventures. Whether pulling their trailer, campground hosting, or travelling the world they did it all together.

Bill played in multiple concert and jazz bands over the years always bringing his love of music and disciplined approach to practice. He shared his talent with The Arbutus Club, The Navy Band, The New Westminster Concert band, The Shriners, and The Vancouver Firefighters band to name a few.

He was an avid renovator who shaped and reshaped our family home and spent hours ensuring the yard reflected his passion for perfect lines.

Recent years he has fought health battles that saw him successfully beat cancer but slowly lose his fight with dementia. Throughout them all, Joan stood by him as his constant companion and advocate. They were quite a team.

He will be missed more than words can express. He was loved by all of us so dearly. A life well lived.
