Obituary for Ward Eby

Harold Ward Alexander Eby September 21, 1926 - May 18, 2017 Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Ward passed away the way he had lived his life - with grace. He is survived by his loving partner, Anne Clemens, his son Fin (Jennifer), his daughter Tanya and grandson Alexander Mitchell, as well as siblings, nieces and nephews in Ontario and BC.

In his long life, Ward worked on U.N. relief ships to Europe and China, earned a degree from Western Ontario University, studied Spanish in Mexico, worked for Dodwell's, a British shipping agency on the Vancouver waterfront, and qualified as a teacher at UBC. He was hired by Coquitlam School District where he was a member of the original staff of Centennial School serving in the English Department and helping to produce the award-winning student paper The Catalyst. He retired in 1991. He will be remembered for his love of language, his wit and wisdom.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers of Crossroads Hospice, who provided exemplary care. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Crossroads Hospice Society (www.crossroadshospicesociety.com) or the BC Cancer Foundation (bccancerfoundation.com).
