Obituary for Sheryl Lane Seale (Miller)

Sheryl passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2019 at the age of 60 years at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver from cardiac arrest consequent upon respiratory failure.
She was and is loved and missed by her immediate family: her husband Paul Seale of Coquitlam, BC, their daughter Jaime Seale-Gordon of Kamloops, BC and their son in law Michael Gordon of Kamloops, BC.
She is also sadly missed by her father Dusty Miller, step-mother Maxine Kootnekoff, her mother Dayle Jensen, her brother Charles Miller, her sister Janice Sallis and of course their spouses and children. There are countless other friends and family members who were shocked by Sheryl's sudden passing and miss her greatly.
She graduated from Reynolds Secondary School in Victoria in the mid 70s. She attended UVic in the Bachelor of Social Work program, attaining credits at the third year level.
She used those skills to work as a Financial Aid Worker for the Ministry of Social Development.
Sheryl then became active in politics; her work in that regard was tireless and spirited. She was a campaign director. As a Constituency Assistant for BC MLAs Michael Sather and Guy Gentner, she deftly organized all aspects of their political and legislative duties. She was a logistics expert for Premier Carol James. She worked for federal NDP leaders Jack Layton and Thomas Mulcair. They all miss her devotedness. She ran for political office (city councillor for Coquitlam).
More recently she became executive assistant to the CEO of Variety The Children's Charity.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2017 and beat that in the spring of 2018 through chemotherapy and radiation.
In early 2019 the cancer emerged again. Sheryl relied on naturopathic remedies this time.
To the end, she fought valiantly to hold onto the spirit that all of us admired in her.
Sheryl was known for her beaming smile and loud laugh.
When she “had your back”, she had your back 110%. You would know that you had her unflagging dedication. Jaime and Paul knew that Sheryl would do anything within her power to allow them to thrive. At times, she was like a bear protecting her young.
She relished her long walks (not just strolls); she and several of her friends tackled the Coquitlam Crunch a few times a week. She started playing pickleball after taking a few lessons with Paul. Always eager to improve herself, she took French lessons to work for the Mulcair campaign. She went to small-group fitness classes a few times a week.
She enjoyed travelling. Her travels took her to England, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, France and India. She was booked for a trip to Slovenia and Italy this fall.
She enjoyed the music community inhabited by her musician husband. She treated all Paul’s friends with warmth and acceptance.
Even in the throes of chemotherapy, most people did not know that she was suffering the ravages of this treatment, unless they were told specifically. That’s how effervescent she was. Maybe her obsession with perfect hair had something to do with this!
Compassionate and extremely generous of spirit, many times she received thank you cards and letters from people whom she touched, including people she didn’t even know.
Almost every phone call with her family ended with “I love you.”
This time, Sheryl, we end our time with you with “We love you.”
