Obituary for Allyn James

Edward Allyn James
Aug 24th 1939- Feb 1st 2024

Edward Allyn James, Burnaby, BC passed away in the early evening of February 1st at the Royal Columbian Hospital.

Allyn was born on August 24, 1939 in Swift Current to Edward and Violet (Carleton) James. As the eldest son he spent his early childhood in White Fox moving to Muncho Lake on the Alaska Highway and then on to Calgary where he attended high school.
In Calgary he worked in the family business at Keith Homes and then left to attend university and play hockey in Boulder Colorado

Allyn married his childhood sweetheart Evelyn (nee James) in 1961, recently celebrating 62 years of marriage.

In 1972 he moved his young family to the West coast of British Columbia. Allyn pursued his dreams, setting upon a whirlwind life in the construction and development industry where he played an active role in the changing skyline of Vancouver and in the early development of Whistler.

The years passed quickly with new projects while always building relationships with clients and communities.
Allyn wrapped up his career travelling and constructing developments throughout North America. Then, finally, retirement.

Allyn led with respect, fairness, and dignity for all. He was perceptive, knowledgeable, supportive, and generous.

He took pride in his family and home, providing a warm and welcoming place for all.

An accomplished storyteller Allyn understood a good story sometimes requires some embellishment.
Many stories were told by the fireplace at the Whistler home, cozying up after a full day of skiing with family and friends.

Allyn’s favourite pastimes included fishing in the Haida Gwaii and crabbing with Michael.
Breakfast at Derek and Bonnie’s home and sharing his stories with Sterling and Liam.
He enjoyed chatting on the phone with Wendy and many leisurely lunches out with Ev.

The family is grateful to Royal Columbian Hospital and all their dedicated and caring staff.

Allyn will be forever missed by his wife Evelyn, his sons Derek and Michael, daughter-in-law Bonnie, grandchildren Sterling and Liam, brother Ron and sister Wendy (Ernie).

Rest in peace, our Beloved Allyn.
