Obituary for Bernard "Bernie" Victor McCormack

Born August 29th 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Bernie passed away suddenly on June 2, 2019, his family by his side. He is predeceased by son Jon McCormack. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sheila, his children Wendy (John), Garth (Denise), and Karen (Laverne), his 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and his brother Ken.

He graduated from Burnaby South High school and trained as a pilot with the Air Force in Claresholm, Alberta. He was hired on by Air Canada (then TCA) and while still in the Reserve Air Force, survived a T33 Trainer mid-air collision. He was one of two survivors.

Bernie and family moved to Jamaica in 1969 on an exchange with Air Jamaica. Later, all moved back to Canada. Winnipeg for a few years with one final move to our family home in Coquitlam.

He retired in August 1995 after a long, exciting and beloved career with Air Canada. He was a member of the AC Pilot’s Association and a lifelong aviation and history buff. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.

Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 pm on June 17, 2019 at Burquitlam Funeral Home, located at 625 North road, in Coquitlam.
