Obituary for Carla Christina Maria Steenhuizen (Wolff)

Carla was born Carla Christina Maria Wolff on May 17, 1935 in Alkmaar, Holland. Alkmaar is known for its cheese market and she always used to say she was born amongst the cheese wheels! She grew up in Bussum, Holland with her sisters Astrid, Mayke and brother Ron and her parents Bernadina and Carolus. She is survived by her sister Mayke, her children Ron and Lorraine and her grandchildren Kaylin and Darian. She moved from Holland to Canada in the 1960s. She was married to Augy Steenhuizen, but they later divorced.

She was a healthcare worker for most of her adult life in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and enjoyed taking care of her elderly patrons. She was a single mom who worked tirelessly to ensure her children had every opportunity available to be able to flourish. She very much enjoyed tennis, embroidery and gardening.

She struggled with mental health issues, and was diagnosed with dementia in her later years. Her son and his wife Wenona and her grandchildren Kaylin and Darian made her as comfortable as possible in her battle with the disease. Carla Steenhuizen passed away suddenly on June 24th in the George Derby Centre in Burnaby, B.C..
