It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Christopher Cochlan on November 30, 2019, peacefully, at Lakeshore Care Centre, Coquitlam. Chris (Papa) leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years Rose (Mailhot). Lovingly remembered by Kathleen Cochlan (Trevor Nash), Tony (June), Terence (Sandy), Sean, Mary Lowther (Scott), Dan (Jo), and dearly missed by grandchildren Katrina, Nick, Alexis, Jonathan, Cameron, Ava, Finnegan and Brennan.
Born on July 1 in Winnipeg, an only child, Chris grew up in Regina and studied at University of Saskatchewan. In Gravelbourg, Sask, on a summer job, he met Rose, the second-youngest of a large French Canadian family, and the love of his life. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1952, and moved his growing family through postings in Esquimalt, Halifax, Ottawa and Bethesda, Maryland. He reached the rank of Captain, always working in the Medical Corps. After retirement, he moved to the lower mainland, first to study at SFU and then to work as a lab tech at Royal Columbian Hospital.
The world has lost a quiet, gentle and good man – we trust he is enjoying many good books and a glass of red wine, and that he knows how much we miss him.
Join us for prayers and celebration of life at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam, on January 10th, 2020 at 2:00 pm; internment at Gethsemani Gardens at a later date.
Donations can be made in his name to L’Arche Greater Vancouver, or the Alzheimer’s Society of BC (alzheimerbc.org).
