Obituary for Donald Sidwell Babcock

DONALD SIDWELL BABCOCK
JULY 25 1930 – MAY 06 2018

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Don Babcock. Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly. They did everything together, this is going to be tough.

Don leaves behind three sons, Jim (Alice), Steve (Carla), Dave (Cheryl), grandchildren Jacqui, Michael (Elza), Amanda (Chris), Mark, Ryan, Lisa and great grandchild Paige.

Most of his working life was spent at Pacific Press. Don spent forty of his years there. He was in the circulation department for the Vancouver Sun. He takes with him many fond memories.

He was vice president of Burnaby Minor Hockey Association, and with three boys playing hockey at the same time and a full time job this was no easy feat.

He loved his noon hour runs through Stanley Park around the seawall. He got his family involved in running in the Vancouver Sun Runs, which he enjoyed for many years.

When he gave up running, he took up dragon boat racing. Another passion he and his wife Bev enjoyed for a number of years.

One of his many projects was his boat he made from scrap lumber, lovingly named LITTLE LEFT OVER which he enjoyed for many years.

Don and his wife Bev loved the great outdoors, they taught their boys to water-ski on Shuswap Lake and Cultus Lake. They loved their cruises and camping in their motor home. They also loved to watch their grandchildren’s sporting events.

Don’s passion for automobiles was commendable, he could identify any car; make, model and year. He taught his boys what they needed to know about their vehicles.

Don had to learn how to get by without a vehicle later in life, one of his greatest losses. His undying love for his wife Bev taught him to use public transit so he could visit every day at Nicola Lodge.

Don took his challenges head on and overcame them, one at a time.

Loved and admired by many, he will be truly missed.
