Obituary for Dorothy Marina Thomas

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Marina Thomas, who died peacefully in Coquitlam on January 19, 2019.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Graham (Janice) and Jason (Lisa) and grandchildren, Maya and Maxyn. She was preceded in death by her son, Geoffrey of Spirit River, AB.

Dorothy was born in Liverpool, England to parents Stanley Swindells and Georgina Evelyn Irene Smith. In the early years Dorothy worked on the Irish Mail Boats traveling between Wales and Ireland before moving to Cemaes Bay, Anglesey where she met and married her soul mate and lifelong partner Eric.

Dorothy and Eric owned a few local pubs in Anglesey, one called The Bull and the other The Clock. After moving from North Wales with Eric and their two sons Graham and Geoffrey to Spirit River, AB in 1968, Dorothy worked at the Royal Bank. In 1972, Dorothy and Eric, along with son Graham moved to Eugene Oregon where Eric completed his Masters Degree in at the University of Oregon. In 1974, Eric, Dorothy, Graham and newborn son Jason moved to Vancouver, BC where Dorothy continued her career in the financial sector with Bank of Montreal. After a number of years Dorothy found her dream job working at Holt Renfrew and continued with Holt’s until her retirement.

Dorothy was a compassionate and loyal friend, who did not hesitate to put others before herself. She was a loving and supportive Wife, Mother and Aunt who lived for her children and loved her friends and extended family, both in Canada and Wales.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for January 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the Burquitlam Funeral Home (625 North Road, Coquitlam). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia in Memory of this very special Individual.
