Obituary for Dorothy May "Dolly" West (Hall)

Dorothy May West (nee Hall) was born in Plymouth, England. She was the second of four children born to Walter (Sydney) and Nellie Hall.

Dolly had a difficult childhood - she suffered from meningitis, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. With determination and her positive spirit, Dolly made a full recovery. She carried that positive spirit through her entire life.

Dolly met her sweetheart, Jack West, in 1948 in Dagenham and they married in 1949.
In 1952, Jack and Dolly made the journey across the Atlantic Ocean to start a new life in Canada. Their boat docked in Halifax, and they took the train across the country, finally settling in Prince Rupert. Dolly also lived in Kamloops, and Tofield, AB.

In the later years of her life, Dolly lived with her daughter June and family in Coquitlam, BC. She quickly became Grandma and friend to the entire neighbourhood, as well as to June’s daughters’ friends.

Dolly was a very talented lady. She was an exquisite cook, and she had a knack for crafting. She was an excellent seamstress and was known for her knitting and crocheting. One of her crafts was making kitchen towels, and she used to joke that she must have made over a thousand! She enjoyed all kinds of music and loved to sing and dance along.

Dolly devoted her life and energy to ensuring her family and loved ones were happy and had everything they could ever want. She taught her children and grandchildren to sew, knit, crochet, bake, and most importantly to be better people. Her smile could light up a room – she was the sweetest person and always a ray of sunshine. Though she was a quiet woman, her mere presence was uplifting and positive.

Dolly was predeceased by her husband Jack. She leaves her 4 children John (Deb), Margaret, June (Dave), Gordon (Chris), 7 grandchildren Evan, Dianne, Trevor, Pamela, Shannon, Adam and Nicole, 4 great grandchildren Jackson, Brandon, Kayden and Emma and her sisters Olive and Pat.

Dolly will live on through her surviving family, and those who were lucky enough to be close with her. She has a lasting impact on everyone she met. She was the best Mother, Grandmother, Wife, and friend that anyone could ask for!

Her family would also like to thank the professional and caring team at the Madison Care Centre for the exceptional and loving care they provided in Dolly’s last years.
