You asked me to call you Betty but you will always be Mrs. Gomes to me as I was just a young teenager when we met in the early 70's. (And that was the respectful thing to do.) I was always welcomed into your home and I fondly remember being included in many fun evenings where you and Mr. Gomes entertained guests. Grateful that we have connected over the years. I admired and will not forget your sparkly eyes, bright smile, and your effervescent & forthright personality . Always so stylish too! :) May you be at Peace. My thoughts are with Laurie, Michael, Carol, & David and Families at this time. Hugs to you all.

I said ,”I love you mom,” in your still but listening ear, and you said , “ I love you to my dear.”
I knew that was all I needed to hear two days before you left me here. I told you not to fear death, but instead to embrace and fall asleep in God’s arms of everlasting love, joy and peace, and you said , “ yes, my dear.” Mom, you have shown me nothing but loving-kindness and always shared words of hope and encouragement. I know you will continue to be a blessing to others in God’s kingdom of grace where we will see each other again, because LOVE WILL NEVER END. Amen!

Laurie, Michael, Carol and David - Even though your folks never lived near us, I feel blessed to have had so many opportunities to spend time with them both, especially when I lived in Vancouver. Many martinis were shared!! Aunt Betty's sense of humour, pragmatism and candidness will stick with me always...even Rick was struck by her chuckle when we had dinner last summer. Visits out west won't be the same without seeing her cheery smile...I will miss her. xx

To my wonderful cousin, beautiful best friend and comical comrade: Thank you for sharing your life, your family, your love with me these past 80 years. You were admired, respected and loved by many but but none as much as me. I was so happy and thankful to see you before you left. Thank you to Laurie Bean, Michael Gomes, Carol Elloway and David Gomes for allowing me to share your mother. Cheers and goodnight, comrade.

Bill and I spent many good times with Betty and Rupe, both here in the east and in the west. Over the last 55 or so years, my sister-in-law, was always important to me as the sister I, as an only child, had never had. Her laugh will stay with me always.

Remembering the fun lunches and shopping trips on Commercial Drive, your beautiful basement suite, your sweet dog Sox and Betty the mistress of merriment. You knew how to spread joy!
