Obituary for Ernest Brawn De Souza

It is with great sadness in our hearts that our family announces the passing of our father, Ernest Brawn De Souza who has departed peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 4:30am.

Ernest is survived by his wife Agnes, married for 49 years and 11 months, his son Jeremy, and daughter in-law Lonnice, his three daughters and sons’ in-law; Jeanette and David, Jocelyn and Chris, Josephine and Jesus, and his precious grandbabies: Therese, Abryana, Christina, Gerard, Brennen, Zoe, Kristen and Araya who all loved him unconditionally.

Ernest was a courageous man who fought a good fight with AML cancer, however, an unforeseen battle got the best of him. He is now glowing in the grace of God and has entered the pearly gates of Heaven where he is welcomed by old friends and family members who have gone before him.

Ernest embraced life to the fullest. He has conquered Mount Kinabalu multiple times, survived a military 30-day survival training-op, won first place in Archery in Lawas and represented for Kota Kinabalu, survived a roll-over motor vehicle accident that paralyzed him from the waist down and battled with Sepsis and lived to tell. Even during his last few months, he continued to be known and referred to as ‘Superman’ who showed no sign of weakness or dependency.

Ernest was a force of nature, determined to provide for his own siblings when he was young, migrated his family to Canada where he sacrificed for the life that he felt they deserved. He was adored by many for his selflessness as he never failed to put others before himself.

Ernest was also a passionate mechanic who could be found in his workshop day or night helping friends and strangers who were in need. From fixing cars on the side of the road to a leaky roof and basements. He was well-known as the “Jack of all trades” always willing to be the man that anyone could call for help. A genuine, real-life Superman.

Anyone who knew him, knew that he was the humblest, most generous, modest, simple and minimalist man.

To celebrate Ernest’s life, a funeral mass will be held with a reception to follow at:
