Obituary for Fioravante Fred Salvador
Fioravante (Freddy) Salvador
April 23, 1927 - April 13, 2020
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Freddy Salvador at 92 years old after a short illness. His passing has taken a piece of our heart and there are no words to describe the void we all feel inside. Dad was born in Valvasone, Italy and passed away in Burnaby where he lived for the last 41 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Vilma (nee Bomben), son Silvano (Maria) and their daughter - Christina; his daughter Lorena and her two daughters: Nikki and Vanessa. He is also survived by his three sisters: Derna, Bruna, and Elisa and predeceased by his parents Angelo and Luigia (nee De Paoli) Salvador, sisters Rosina, Seconda, Nella, and Maria and brothers Baci and Evaristo.
Dad moved to Canada to start a new life in 1951 where he spent 7 years before travelling back to Italy on vacation where he met our Mom. They married in Zoppola, Italy on October 4, 1958 after which Dad returned to Canada by himself. Mom departed Italy several months later in 1959 to start her life with Dad in Vancouver, BC. Their first child, Silvano was born in 1959 and 5 years later Lorena was born.
The love he had for his family was immeasurable and the greatest gift he received was becoming a “nonno” to his three beautiful granddaughters - Nikki, Vanessa and Christina whom he loved so very much. Anybody who knew him loved hearing his infectious laughter and felt an instant connection to his kind, jovial and loving personality. Dad enjoyed reading and always kept up to date with world news and current events. He enjoyed watching many different sports, but his greatest passion was soccer. You could always count on him for an interesting conversation when discussing historical topics such as the Roman empire or any of the major wars.
We would like to thank all our relatives, friends and coworkers who have reached out to us during these most difficult and trying times. Due to Covid-19 restrictions for mass gatherings, an invitation only service will be held for Dad at Saint Theresa’s Parish (5146 Laurel St, Burnaby) on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 10:30 AM.
