Obituary for Gary Wayne Couling

COULING, Gary Wayne

Birthdate: July 27, 1941 Birthplace: Guelph, Ontario

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Gary on July 6, 2023 at 81 years of age.

He was predeceased by his parents George & Ada Couling and his brother Noel. He was deeply loved, cherished by many, and he will be missed by his wife Danielle, his sons Mitchell & Kyle (Candice), Ben, Kevin (Jasmine), his grandchildren Cara (Derek), Joshua, Meghan, Jorja, Quade, Kiera and great-grandson Kacey.

Gary was born and raised in Guelph, ON, and studied at the Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute. He then went on to become a Chartered Accountant (CA), starting his working career in Kitchener, ON. He subsequently moved to Vancouver BC, in 1967, and in the early 1970s began a thriving career in the forestry industry working as a CA with The Probyn Group, becoming a partner in the late 70s. He continued to work and lead in the industry that he was passionate about until his retirement in March of 2005.

In addition to his love for his family and work, Gary was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed running, skiing, tennis and golf, and was an avid fan of the Vancouver Canucks. Gary & Danielle with their family were members of the Blue Mountain Racquet Club, Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert and also Swaneset Bay Resort & Country Club in Pitt Meadows. Together, they took time to enjoy his newfound retired life with travels to Australia, Europe and several cruises over the years. Many winters were also spent enjoying the sun in Palm Desert.

He cherished his time with his family, and could always be counted on for a game of crib and celebrated winning or losing with a DQ Dilly Bar.

Special thanks to the staff at both Royal Columbian & Eagle Ridge Hospitals for the care that he received over the past few months.

He was a great supporter of the BC Cancer Agency, the Red Cross and Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation and the Arthritis Society. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society
