Obituary for Hilda Zapf

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hilda Zapf on October 22, 2022 aged 96 years.
Hilda died peacefully while residing at Dufferin Care Center in Coquitlam, where she gradually declined
due to osteoarthritis. Hilda was cared for by many, including her loving family and the kind staff of
Dufferin.
Hilda was born in Romania, married her husband Alfred in 1950, following which they immigrated to
Canada and soon after began their family in Vancouver BC. Together they built two homes, one in
Vancouver and one in Coquitlam, which was a treasured achievement as hardworking and successful
immigrants to Canada. Much later they enjoyed their residence at Princess Crescent in Coquitlam.

Hilda enjoyed working at Fletcher's Meats for 14 years, while also mastering a full time occupation as
homemaker and mother to two daughters. Hilda enjoyed visits from family and friends. This gave her
the opportunity to demonstrate her talent for great cooking and as host to large dinner parties. Baking
rich fancy cakes and shopping for these events were a favourite activity.

Hilda also found joy in growing exotic indoor flowers, and trips to Hawaii with Alfred to experience the
varied tropical gardens there were always special.

Hilda adored Alfred, who predeceased her in 1995. Following his passing she was sustained and
comforted by her strong faith and a quieter solitude with her extended family, which included daughters
Rita and Ria, sons-in-law Jurgen and John, grandchildren Norbert (Jenny),
Arnold and Claudia (Malte), Ryan (Joanne), Vanessa, and more recently great grandchildren Linus, Till and Felix.
Hilda is also survived by her sister-in-law Hilda Bales, aged 97 years.

On behalf of Hilda the family wishes to thank all those friends and acquaintances who looked after her
as she declined in health, and especially her Pastor and the Dufferin Care Team.

As I Rest

I rest in peaceful slumber
Like an infant fast asleep,
And will no longer wake
To feel pain, or weep.

This is my "good night"
And soon we all shall meet,
In the big paradise beyond
Where God brings comfort, love and peace.

No need to cry for "Hilda"
With my earthly deeds complete,
My passage to join Alfred
Has brought great joy to me.
