Condolence From: Isaac Brower-Berkhoven
Condolence: As Submariners and both being at ISE we are so intertwined it is difficult to relate the emptiness which has been caused by the passing of James. My thoughts are with Julie and Lindsay when I read their posts on Facebook. The Submarine and Submersible world both have lost a true brother of the deep!

Condolence From: Paul Hansen
Condolence: Julie … Our most sincere condolences to the Ferguson family. Although there are no words that could possibly soothe the pain you and your family are now enduring, people will try, and whatever words they use and even if some of those words fail to console, people are really just trying to say that they care. With the long relationship both you and James had with the submarine community we hope you are well aware that we are among those who care. As hard as it will be to do, make the time to take care of yourself and your family. A submariners tradition of which you are, we are sure, well aware, honouring the passing of one of our own, is the final line of our respects: ‘ We shall remember. ’ W. Paul Hansen, President On behalf of the members Submariners Association of Canada West When those we love depart this world and leave us here to pine, the hollow space that’s left behind, and darkness intertwine. Hope’s candle is no longer lit, yet deep inside we know, tht they would smile and quietly urge us to let it go.

Condolence From: Kathleen and Lloyd Barnes
Condolence: Julie and Family, We first met James when Lloyd Joined RAINBOW in 1971. James was a most sociable officer with a great sense of humour. During the next four years, Lloyd learned that James was a most competent officer and a true submariner. We were happy to reconnect with James and Julie over the past few years and very much enjoyed our times together. James will be missed. Our sincerest condolences to Julie and Family.

Condolence From: Yann LE PAGE, ALSEAMAR
Condolence: We are so sad... James was a lot more than a business partner for ACSA/ALSEAMAR. He loved France and enjoyed so much his visits in Provence when he was travelling here for business. We at ALSEAMAR were already missing him from the time he retired.. we will now miss him even more. James will stay for the worldwide AUV business a reference as much for his friendliness as for his technical and business expertise. With blessings, Yann LE PAGE, CTO, Hubert THOMAS, retired CEO, Marc BOISSE, CEO, and the whole ALSEAMAR team

Condolence: I am so sorry to learn that James has "crossed the bar" far too early. It has been some thirty years since we last met so he will remain forever youthful in my memory. Sincerest condolences to the entire family at this difficult time.

Condolence From: Bruce MacLean
Condolence: Dear Julie, Janet and family, James was a major influence and mentor in my submarine career. Exciting times at sea and great runs ashore punctuated our time together. I learned a great deal from a fine individual and friend. We have lost a valued submarine comrade and an important contributor to Canadian undersea research-much too early. My deepest sympathies on your loss, Bruce MacLean

Condolence From: Pete Stevenson
Condolence: Sorry to hear your news. I only met Jim a few times but he was someone who left a big impression. His work with ISE, especially the under ice, was truly pioneering. He was probably one of only a handful of engineers in the world who had a proper grasp of the technical complexities and a detailed understanding of autonomous under water vehicles. Pete Stevenson. Engineer (retired) at the National Oceanography Centre, UK.

Condolence From: Alain FIDANI
Condolence: Dear James' Family, I had the chance to meet James when he was at ISE for business. We worked together on a few projects related to ISE AUV Explorer (2003 and 2005), and then later to CYBERNETIX SWIMMER (2007). I came to meet with James in Vancouver on several occasions, and also when he was coming to France. Beyond business, each time it was a pleasure to share with him priviledged moments (meals) where we would talk about anything. He certainly was a gentleman and I am sad to learn he passed away. I would like to present his family my sincere condoleances. Best regards, Alain FIDANI (FRANCE)

Condolence From: Phil Webster
Condolence: Julie and family: Although I have only met James from time to time over the last few years, I served with him in submarines for much of his naval career. We had some quiet runs ashore (and not so quiet) in the UK and other ports we visited. He stayed with us in the UK during his off-time during Perisher. I will always remember James as the enduring professional naval officer and submariner, and I know he was also a successful business man when he retired from the Navy. Our sincere condolences go out to you and your family - we have all lost a wonderful friend and colleague. Phil and Heather Webster
