Obituary

Obituary for James "Jim" Shorten

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Shorten, 73, of Coquitlam, B.C. on April 25. He was predeceased by his mother Verona Shorten, father James Shorten Sr., and Brothers Rick and Bob.

Missing him dearly is his loving wife of 40 years, Lorraine. He was also known as "Papa Jim" by his daughters, Dana, Shauna, Donna, and Cathy, as well as his 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his caring sister, Patricia.

Jim will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, as well as his incredible sense of humour! He could light up a room and make anyone smile! His passions included spending his days with Lorraine, playing bingo, enjoying concerts, memories of his dog "Rusty", and of course, watching the Blue Jays baseball games.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Belvedere Care Centre for the wonderful care they provided to him over the years.

Jim's beautiful bright light will shine in our hearts forever! Keep smiling Papa Jim!

My Beloved Jim, you had to go, leaving me behind. Although we are apart now, we will always be together in my heart. It’s not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you again. Sending all my love, your Lorraine, your wife.

Jim's light-hearted and easygoing nature was one of his great qualities. We loved that about him, and his sense of humour. He would always share a story or tell us something that would make us laugh. He loved family, he loved people. The times we spent in his company will be memorable ones. Miss you lots, Jim ! Rest in peace

I have many fond memories of Papa Jim. One of my favourites is of a game of charades on Christmas Day years ago. My cousin was desperately trying to communicate a famous location to us with bizarre gestures. Nobody was anywhere near the answer, or so it seemed. Out of the blue, Papa Jim flawlessly calls out "White Cliffs of Dover". The astonished look on everyone's face at his correct answer, and the laughter that followed, was a wonderful moment. Like many others, I will miss Papa Jim. May he rest in peace.

Known as Papa Jim to his grandchildren, I was very fortunate to grow up and experience the kindness that Papa Jim radiated. I remember the love he showed for Grandma, his family and of course his dog Rusty! I remember Papa Jim use to walk Rusty around the neighbourhood and that would bring him so much joy! He was the sweetest, most gentle soul this world would ever see! You will always be in our hearts. We love you Papa Jim! Love Tyler Thompson
