Obituary for Jamie Ellen McMillan

It is with great sadness that we announce that our long goodbye to Jamie has come to an end. She passed away, late in the evening of September 10th, surrounded by her beloved family. The last months, and especially the last weeks, she was in great distress, so we take solace in the fact she no longer suffers. Jamie, born in Terrace, BC, July 2, 1947, was predeceased by her loving husband Dan and her brother Kerry. She is survived by sons Chris (Peter) and Steve (Bernadette), granddaughter Eva, brother Robert Grant, sister Kathie Bolderson and countless family members, friends and relatives.

Having endured a difficult childhood, she maintained a positive approach to life, a love of people and a desire to help those in need. That love of people found her a very engaging stranger to people she’d meet, helped her develop an interest in certain pet charities, and encourage her to adopt a family through the Christmas Bureau each year. Her positivity helped her right up until the end. After her diagnosis, she chose to stay positive and deal with each obstacle as it developed. Doing so with much grace.

Jamie also loved to travel, be it with Dan and/or dear friends, or even the odd adventure on her own. Whatever the journey, she was always happiest at home or Whistler with family and friends. Jamie loved music…all kinds of music. Being a youthful mother, she was always a surprise to her kids and their friends with the albums she brought home and what was in the collection. Towards the end, listening to her more recent favourites was the one thing that put her at ease.

Jamie had always said she wanted to be at home as long as she could and that wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for Teresita and Angelita. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love and care for Jamie. Also, sincerest thanks to Jan and the staff at Shaughnessy Care Centre for helping us all through her final weeks.

A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held Tuesday October 15, 2019 at 11:30 am at the Vancouver Golf Club, 771 Austin Ave, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jamie’s memory to either the CKNW Kids’ Fund or Alzheimer Society of BC would be greatly appreciated.
