Obituary for Jeanette (Jan) Jasienczyk

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanette (Jan) Jasienczyk of Port Moody. Born in Neepawa, Manitoba in 1946, Jan was an independent and adventurous woman. She traveled throughout Europe, venturing into the Iron Curtain in the 1960s, overcoming many obstacles to connect with relatives in Poland. Jan was the first person in her family to graduate from University. Shortly after completing her degree at the University of Manitoba, she traveled west and settled in Port Moody. For over three decades, Jan called Port Moody home, becoming an integral part of the community.

Jan had a very successful business career, first working in the fashion industry as a Regional Manager with Dylex Corporation, one of the largest clothing retailers in Canada at the time, then with 7-Eleven and finally Barber-Ellis. Following her career in business, Jan served as a City Councilor for Port Moody, where she worked tirelessly on behalf of her constituents. She was actively involved in her community, volunteering her time for events such as Golden Spike Days and for activities with many other charitable organizations. Prior to joining St. Clare of Assisi Parish, she was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish and the friends she met there have been an integral part of her life for many years.

Jan's commitment to empowering women and fostering education led her to become involved with the Canadian Federation of University Women where she recently served as the past President of the Coquitlam Chapter. She made many friends throughout her years working with this CFUW and enjoyed these friendships immensely.

Beyond her professional and community endeavors, Jan possessed a vibrant spirit and a zest for life. An avid cook and gracious host, she delighted in organizing festive Christmas parties at her home, creating cherished memories for all who attended. Most recently, she was an active participant in a Garden Group, a Bridge Club and so much more. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at St. Clare of Assisi 2888 Delahaye Drive Coquitlam on January 8th, 2024 at 11 am. The family welcomes donations to St. Clare Parish as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
