Obituary for Joy Angela Jhocson (Parma)

Joy was born in Naga, Bicol, Philippines on July 25, 1965. She was a Psychology major in Ateneo de Manila University and completed her masters. She knew her husband, Arthur, since high school and got married in 1987. Their children are Sam, Jacob, and Joel. In 2009, they moved to Canada.

Joy joined MOSAIC in May of 2015 as a Settlement Worker with the Newcomers and Communities Building Program and stayed in the position throughout the years. True to her name, Joy was cheerful, calm, and very much liked by both her colleagues and clients. Acknowledgment for her amazing care and work included a Certificate of Appreciation from the Philippines Consulate in Vancouver on International Migrants Day in 2016 as well as a 2020 MOSAIC Peer-to-Peer Recognition Award. Joy’s contributions to the community included her Parent Support Group membership at the Parent Support Services Society of BC and her active participation in FilNet (Filipino Networking for Social Services in BC). As well, Joy and her husband volunteered at B.C. Correctional Facilities as part of the prison ministry’s Circle Of Support and Accountability (COSA).

Joy was always there for her family. She is well known for her beautiful smile, inquisitive mind, and hilarious sense of humour. She was the best wife and mother. She was a devout Catholic and taught her family the importance of God. Like her father, she had a passion for music. Her favourite artist is Billy Joel, which is why her youngest is named "Joel" She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She truly is a bundle of joy.
