Obituary for Joyce Loretta Marino (Irvine)

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom, Joyce, at the age of 86. Predeceased by her parents Stan and Myra Irvine, and her husband Nick, Joyce will be missed by her brother Clifford Irvine (Sharon), daughters Catherine Birchmore, Lori Rosner (Marty) and Teresa Willms, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Joyce was born in Prince Albert, SK and grew up in Saskatoon. As a young woman she joined the Canadian War Reserves and had training in Gimli, MB. After her service she worked for Pacific Finance and Household Finance, first in Edmonton, then in Vancouver where she met her husband Nick. Married in 1960, she became a new mom to Cathy; Lori and Teresa arrived in the following years. Joyce loved being a mom to her 3 girls and was happy to be a Grandma to Jimmy, Bill, Kenny, Karli, Kayla, Natalie and Sarah, and Great-Grandma to Austin, Billy, Hayley, Max and Sophia.

Joyce enjoyed 10 pin bowling for over 20 years at Brentwood Lanes, starting in the early 1970s. In later years she switched to 5 pin bowling at Hastings Bowl and Old Orchard Lanes. Joyce loved to play crib also and scored two 28 hands in Grass Roots Competitions. Joyce was also a long time volunteer at Fellburn Care Centre helping in the Day Health program (15 years). She was an avid gardener and would often cut bouquets of roses for her daughters. Joyce was a great fan of baseball, and enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and the Vancouver Canadians.

A Celebration of Life will be held privately for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau (www.bbyservices.ca/programs-christmasbureau.php) or The Dixon Society (dixonsociety.ca)
