Obituary for Laurie Violet Johnstone

Laurie Violet Johnstone was born in Vancouver, B.C. on March 23, 1952 and passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents Edwin (Ted) and Wilma Scholl, fondly remembered as Granny and Grandpa.

Laurie grew up in Port Moody, B.C. and graduated as a registered nurse from nursing school in 1973. She worked at RCH, then Eagle Ridge Hospital when it opened in 1984, spending most of her years in the Emergency Department, she retired in 2013. She married her high school sweetheart, Ken, on July 12, 1975 and they celebrated their 45th anniversary last year.

Laurie dearly loved her family, especially her sons Warren (Alison) and Trevor (Caitlin) and her amazing grandchildren: Ryder, Nico, and Julia. Laurie enjoyed spending her time camping by the water with a good book, watching her son’s and grandson’s play baseball and cheering them on. Laurie’s sister, Mina ( Richard) Claridge as well as her niece Allison, nephew Ryan, all remained very close. The family shares wonderful memories, yearly Christmas dinners at Ken and Laurie’s house, heading into Vancouver for happy hour and their adventures when she visited them in Arizona, memories that will last a lifetime.

Laurie had a unique gift for understanding people and accepting them for who they were. She was always there to listen and give constructive, honest and loving advice.

Please join the family in remembering Laurie, she will be dearly missed.
