Obituary for Lita Joe

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lita Joe on September 17, 2020. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side, after a long battle with cancer. Lita was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 7, 1949. She moved to Vancouver when she was four years old with her adoptive parents Harry and Lena Chow (predeceased).

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and the Abreast In A Boat paddling community. Lita was a remarkable woman, an amazing wife, loving mom and more so she enjoyed being Po Po to her grandchildren, Hope and Nate. She was also a wonderful sister-in-law, an amazing aunt and a kindhearted friend. She was always a happy, positive, pleasant, and a fun person to be with.

Lita is survived by her husband, Errol, of 47 years and her children Danelle (Fred Setterington), Ryan and her two precious grandchildren, Hope and Nate. And her brother, Jason Chow (Susan).

The family would like to thank all the staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital Emergency, as well as her family doctor, Dr. John A. Rideout, and staff at BCCA, oncologists Dr. Karen Gelman and Dr. Mary Georgialis, as well as her last trial nurse, Lahli, for all the care and support they have provided. We would also like to thank Rob McCormick, at Burquitlam Funeral Home, for the care and guidance where arrangements for Lita have been made.

At this time there will be a private family ceremony. A Celebration of Life for Lita will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Lita's memory to the B.C. Cancer Agency or an organization of your choice.

It’s with heavy heart I write this, a very special and courageous woman. I first met Lita with A Breast In Barnet Dragon Boat team in 2001. Always an inspiration to all that knew her. Lita will be missed. Hoping we still see Ryan out with the team in the future

Errol and family,
So sorry to hear of Lita's passing. I first met Lita when I was a novice with Abreast In A Boat.. What a wonderful person to introduce me to the world of dragon boat racing and breast cancer survivors. Warm, kind, demanding in a gentle way, encouraging and a little mischievous are just a few words to describe Lita, a special, loving woman. You, her family, were always there to not only support Lita but the AIAB family. Many fond memories will keep her alive in our hearts. Sending our love to you all in this time of sadness. We are Lita and Errol's friends for over 30 years. We first met Lita when we worked for Scotiabank. Lita and Errol held a baby shower for our daughter and our friendship grew from there. Lita always had a smile on her face and a positive outlook on life. She always thought of others and was a great listener. We took several trips together and always had lots of fun. Our last trip together was the best of all, a cruise to the Caribbean where we zip-lined, took a rum distillery tour and went to the beach. Lita you are in our hearts forever, we will miss your beautiful smile.

We were Lita and Errols next door neighbours for many years. We often had evening coffee visits with them and their two wonderful children and family dog. We were neighbours when Lita was first diagnosed with cancer many years ago. She was amazing. So brave and never complained. Lita then and always was soft spoken, always a smile, and never complained. She was a pleasure to be with at all times. Her outlook was always positive. She was a gem and a great great loss to Errol, family, and friends. In reading her niece Tracey posted comments..her words and memories truly captured Lita, her aunt and our friend.
