Obituary for Mary Jean MacLachlan

Mary Jean MacLachlan
August 20 1958- June 13th 2020

Mary passed away at home in Vancouver, B.C.
Predeceased by her partner Kent; father David, brothers Campbell and Graham.
Mary is lovingly missed by her mother Jean; Diane (Christine); Carolyn (Peter); Kathy (Mike); Ashley, David, Mandy and Cailey. She is held dear and fondly remembered by her many extended family members and friends. Our Mary was a vibrant, loving, kind and gentle soul. We will always remember her creativity in art, music, poetry, choreography and her physicality in tennis, canoeing and swimming.
Mary found comfort in her spirituality.

A quiet small family gathering will be held privately to honour Mary’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or Windchimes Rain City Housing, Vancouver.

Dear MacLachlan Family
I was so sorry to read about the loss of your daughter/sister Mary. I was fortunate to babysit the family as my. Dad Mr Mallon rented a cottage near your home in Sarnia. I thoroughly enjoyed my babysitting days with your family. Mary was a quiet polite young girl who enjoyed reading and looking out for her younger siblings. One summer Monica and I helped babysit the family at a cottage in Port Carling. That was a great experience up at a cottage away from home. Unfortunately our paths never crossed again. Those were fun days for me as a 13 yrs old girl who loved taking care of children Thinking of you all during this sad time. Love to you all

My cousin Mary was courageous, determined and followed her desire to explore and just have fun. These were and have continued to be my best memories of Mary. When we were ages 12 & 13, Mary stayed with us and that is when I got to know her. Thank you Mary for touching my life while being in the wake of yours that wonderful summer long ago. I send love and support to Mary’s loved ones and will continue to fondly remember her adventurous spirit.

I have such good and wonderful memories of my cousin Mary .. both as a child when visiting Sarnia as well as after she first moved to Vancouver. I've always admired Mary's strong spirit and unique presence. She now returns to Mother Nature and the continuation of the natural world, as we all will.

Cecilia Mallon

Dear Mrs. MacLachlan, Carolyn, Peter and Dianne: I was so sorry to hear of your loss of Mary. Her Obituary describes the person who I knew not very well but it did conjure up her Spirit for me. Everything in this world is dust; only God is eternal - no beginning and no end. We are all finite and that is just the nature of things.- except our Spirits. It pains us to say goodbye in this world to our loved ones but knowing that we will be reunited can bring a measure of comfort. Faith is the key I think. Perhaps when we lose a loved one it may strengthen our faith when we grasp this reality of eternity. I hope that for your family as you all seem to be very Spiritual. God is in charge and knows what He is doing. We are all here for such a short time and maybe like ships passing in the night but once to our eternal home, we will be reunited eternally. This world is often fraught with difficulty but the promise is the next world is where we are free. My sympathies go out to all the MacLachlans. I remember Mary and her Obituary brought back memories of all of us when we were younger. Peace to you all.
