Obituary for Melissa Lynn Blimkie

It is with shattered hearts that we announce the passing of Melissa at the age of 25, as the result of a senseless act of violence. Melissa is survived by grieving parents Laurie and Karen Blimkie, loving sister Alicia, grandparents Robert and Dolores Blimkie and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Melissa was predeceased by her Pop (Paul Donaldson), Nana (Patricia Fry/Donaldson) and Granddad Jim (James Fry).

Melissa attended Our Lady of the Assumption Elementary and Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary Schools in Port Coquitlam. She was a graduate of Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Her time at SFU also included an international term at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Melissa was very active in dance and acrobatics during her school years. She also loved to travel and managed to visit many destinations in her 25 years, including numerous locations in Canada and the United States, as well as Colombia, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia (Bali), Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

Melissa grew into a strong, intelligent and independent young woman. She was very loving and loyal in her friendships and possessed a real joy of life. She had many hopes and dreams for her future. Melissa had an amazing smile and laugh and could find the fun in almost any situation. She had a special spark about her and spread joy and fun to those lucky enough to know her. In our family, she made us all smile a little more, laugh a little more and enjoy life a little more than we otherwise would.

The family wishes to thank the first responders who worked so hard to save her and made sure she did not die alone, IHIT for their professionalism and compassion, and Burnaby RCMP Victim Services for their support when we needed it most.

Melissa is now safe in the arms of God and with her beloved Nana.
