Obituary for Raymond John Mitchuk

On Sunday, October 13, 2019, Ray Mitchuk, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at the age of 89.

Ray was born on October 7, 1930, in Poland before arriving to The Pas, Manitoba where he later launched his 39 year bank career before moving to B.C. and marrying his anchor in life, his devoted wife, Hazel Cooper. They raised two daughters, Brenda and Beverley, and one son Robert.

Ray was described as “a man with a purpose, an able and willing communicator, and a leader dedicated to community.” Ray served as President or Chair of numerous city and national associations including multiple terms as City Council Alderman and as member of the Simon Fraser Board of Health.

A veracious reader, sports enthusiast, advocate, analyst, always ready with comment on the state of world affairs, Ray will be remembered above all for his generosity, hospitality, courageous spirit, and as a pillar of strength to countless family members and friends. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Hazel, children Brenda, Beverley, and Robert, daughter-in-law Angela, and grandchildren Kelly, Michael, and Lauren.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Vancouver Golf Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider contributions in Ray’s memory to the BC Cancer Foundation or to your charity of choice.
