Obituary for Roderick Ainsworth

We are very sad to announce that James Roderick (Rod) Ainsworth born on 2 June 1936 in Charlottetown, PEI, passed away peacefully at home in Coquitlam, BC, surrounded by his loving family, on 19 October 2021. Survived by his devoted wife, Janice, children Kim, Jody (Bob), Leigh-Ann (Sel); grandchildren; Devin, Michaela, Nikolas, Brianna, Natalie, Scott, Jordan and Jessica; his brother, Verne; and many nieces and nephews.

Rod was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. Janice and Rod wed in Fredericton, NB in Dec 1960 and enjoyed a 60 year marriage full of love, laughter, adventure and travel. In 1960 Rod earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from UNB which launched him into a successful 50 year career in roles that included General Manager of the Mechanical Division of Francon in Montreal, Vice President and General Manager of Lafarge Concrete in Vancouver, and Executive Director at K. Wah in Hong Kong.

Rod loved his retirement, which gave him more time for golfing, reading, curling, gardening, woodwork refinishing, travelling and socializing. He enjoyed serving on various committees for the St. Laurence Anglican Church and as an Ambassador at the Westwood Plateau Golf Club. He was a faithful community member who made friends in every walk of life.

We will miss Rod’s wit, humility, wisdom, kindness, warmth, love and zest for life. He made the world a better place.
