Obituary for Rose Boivin
It is with much sadness that we gather today to honour the passing of Rosalie Elizabeth Boivin. Rose (as she liked to be called), was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 17, 1929 and passed on June 3rd, 2019.
On her 90th birthday in April of this year, Rose celebrated with many of her children, their partners, and several grandchildren. Rose’s parents, Patrick and Margaret Bethel had 8 children, Rose being the eldest. Surviving siblings are Ronald, Irene and Elaine, along with many nieces and nephews. Predeceased are Rose’s brother Daniel, and her sisters, Joan, Patsy, and Evelyn, in addition to Rose’s son, Adrian.
Rose’s first marriage was to Manly Mcallister. In time, Rose married Francis Joseph Boivin; their marriage was a long one, busy with raising a large family. Rose’s marriage to Francis (“Frank”) ended at the time of Frank’s death, at which point they had been together for more than three and a half decades.
Rose is survived by seven of her children, including; her daughter’s Margaret (Terry) and Gail (Colin) and their families; and her son’s Glen (Joanne), Ronald (Janet), Daniel (Janet), Bryan (Pam) and Rick (Filomena) and their families. Rose is survived by 16 Grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Rose and Frank spent a part of their life together in Ontario, later moving through the Prairies’ and locating in different towns throughout the Kootenays and Okanagan before settling down in Vancouver to finish raising their children. In 2006 Rose moved to the vibrant community of Tsawassen where she thrived and lived independently well into her late 80’s. After some strokes and a fall prior to the Christmas of 2017, Rose was hospitalized and ambulation became problematic. For the past year Rose lived in Buchanan Lodge where she often shared that she was very happy and well nurtured by the caring team of healthcare professionals of Buchanan Lodge.
Rose was an encouraging parent towards her children, resiliently supporting her children as they navigated many sports and other related extracurricular school and academic activities. Taking care of a large family did not leave much time for herself, but Rose loved to bake, garden, watch afternoon soaps and to talk on the telephone for hours with friends, former neighbors, and family living across Canada.
Once all Roses children were launched into school, Rose spent some time in the cleaning service helping out a neighbor with his Office Cleaning Business before settling into the role of care provider for the elderly. Rose worked at two separate care homes and often came home with humorous tales of her engagement with the elderly population.
