Obituary for Rose Cochlan

Our world lost a beautiful soul, our lovely mother and grandmother, Marie-Rose Philomene (Mailhot) Cochlan, who passed away of natural causes, in Coquitlam, four months after her husband Chris. She was born into a large, French-Canadian family in Gravelbourg, SK; her roots in that town and culture were a source of lifetime pride. Family trials and losses, including the death of her twin, Marie-Blanche, didn't dampen her zest for life, and the wider world got to meet her when Chris came to town and love blossomed. They moved to Esquimalt, BC, as well as Halifax, Ottawa, Washington, DC and finally Victoria as part of life in the Navy. Family was everything for Rose, beginning but not ending with her six children. She worked in the civil service as a secretary in Ottawa, Victoria and finally, locally, at Okalla Prison and Surrey Pre-Trial Centre. Rose was an enthusiastic member of the choir les Echos du Pacifique and a good friend and neighbour to many. Her warmth, generosity, hospitality, sense of fun and love for all are treasured memories for her family: Kathleen (Trevor Nash), Tony (June), Terence, Sean, Mary Lowther (Scott), Dan (Giovanna), her beloved grandchildren and her friends. A funeral will be held at a later date. Donations may be made, if desired, to the Alzheimers Society of BC.
