Obituary for Ruth Percy (Olson)

Our sweet Ruth left us on January 28, 2021 to join her precious husband, Richard and continue their journey together.

Ruth will be greatly missed by her wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as special cousins in Scandinavia, Yorkshire, the U.S., Australia and B.C.

Ruth was always cheerful and optimistic and will be remembered for her intelligence, thoughtfulness, integrity and goofy sense of humour. She loved teaching and was a Burnaby teacher for many years. Ruth took a keen interest in politics and was a strong champion for Canada, often reminding others of the importance of buying Canadian. Ruth’s longtime interest in the old car hobby began when she met Rick, who drove a 1928 Packard. She was a founding member (wife) of the Vintage Car Club of Canada and the owner of two antique cars. Her favourite was the 1910 Hupmobile from which she and Rick enjoyed such great times at the Hupp tours and Malahat challenges.

In retirement, Ruth was an active fundraiser and volunteer for several charities. She also found pleasure in history, reading, travelling, opera, cats and daily coffee excursions.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Josva and Ellen Olson, her sisters Ethel, Mable, Gladys and Doris, brothers Wilfred and Gordon, Sisters-in-law Louisa and Helen and Brothers-in-law Ben, John, Chad, and Frank, nieces Karen and Lynda and her dear friend Heather Gillis.

A family service will be held at a later date.

“Many have danced this dance called life
But none with her gentle grace.”
