Obituary for Sergio Francesco Maurizio

With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father Sergio Maurizio on September 13, 2019, after many months in hospital, with family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Angelo and Assunta, his brothers Ugo and Elio and more recently on Feb. 28,2019, his beloved wife and soul mate Yvonne Maurizio. One can truly and literally say he died of a broken heart. We take some comfort in knowing they are together again.

Born in Udine, Italy he came to Vancouver in 1969 after meeting his future wife when she was back in Italy visiting family. Sergio was an outstanding mechanic and after working for a number of years at a European repair shop, he and a partner opened S&M Auto Imports on Venables St. in the late 70s. He then took it over on his own a few years later. He was known as a genius and a truly honest mechanic loved by his loyal customers and he enjoyed working hard on his trade until his retirement in 1995.

He will be greatly missed by his children Tammy (Sandro), Claudio (Carly); grandchildren, Luca, Olivia, Max and Meyer and many relatives and friends both here and in Italy. Sergio will be remembered as a devoted father, husband and nonno. He was an easy-going, friendly, funny, giving and kind hearted man with a contagious smile who will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

There will be a joint funeral for both Sergio and Yvonne on Oct. 3rd at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Ave. Bby, at 10:00am followed by interment at Ocean View Cemetery, 4000 Imperial St. Bby. Reception to follow at Lochdale Hall, 490 Sperling Ave. Bby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Crossroads Hospice.

Sergio owned S and M Motors and I knew him when he was the sole owner. He was always kind and helpful, as well as always doing a good job. I greatly appreciated the service S and M Motors provided to me for many years. When he retired he introduced me to his successor, John, who has carried on the good work. My thoughts are with his family, who must miss him very much. Best wishes, Ann Webborn.

Dear Tammy, Claudio, and families,
Please accept our deepest condolences. Our hearts break for all of you in the loss of your beloved dad and nonno.
Tammy, you gave everything of yourself in advocating, caring for, and loving your dad for these past 7 months with the support of your husband and children every step of the way. You did all of this while you had just lost your dear mom. There are no words to express what you have been through...
May you all feel his love for all of you every single day. Sending our love and prayers for peace and strength.
