Obituary for Sergio Francesco Maurizio

With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father Sergio Maurizio on September 13, 2019, after many months in hospital, with family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Angelo and Assunta, his brothers Ugo and Elio and more recently on Feb. 28,2019, his beloved wife and soul mate Yvonne Maurizio. One can truly and literally say he died of a broken heart. We take some comfort in knowing they are together again.

Born in Udine, Italy he came to Vancouver in 1969 after meeting his future wife when she was back in Italy visiting family. Sergio was an outstanding mechanic and after working for a number of years at a European repair shop, he and a partner opened S&M Auto Imports on Venables St. in the late 70s. He then took it over on his own a few years later. He was known as a genius and a truly honest mechanic loved by his loyal customers and he enjoyed working hard on his trade until his retirement in 1995.

He will be greatly missed by his children Tammy (Sandro), Claudio (Carly); grandchildren, Luca, Olivia, Max and Meyer and many relatives and friends both here and in Italy. Sergio will be remembered as a devoted father, husband and nonno. He was an easy-going, friendly, funny, giving and kind hearted man with a contagious smile who will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

There will be a joint funeral for both Sergio and Yvonne on Oct. 3rd at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Ave. Bby, at 10:00am followed by interment at Ocean View Cemetery, 4000 Imperial St. Bby. Reception to follow at Lochdale Hall, 490 Sperling Ave. Bby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Crossroads Hospice.
