Obituary for Setsuo "Cy" Iwagami

Setsuo was born on October 31st, 1947 in Iwate-ken, Japan and died on August 15th, 2019 at Eagle Ridge Hospital, Port Moody, B.C. with his family by his side.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Tomoko; his daughters, Sakura (Gideon) and June (Kevin); his granddaughters, Naomi and Kimiko; the Iwagami family in Japan; and his granddaughter-in-law, Sasha. He is predeceased by his son-in-law Stephen Hayward.

Setsuo moved to Tokyo in 1965 where he met Tomoko. They married and moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1971. Setsuo worked at Downtown Toyota for over 40 years. He loved his work and he was known to his work friends and colleagues as “Cy.” In fact, he missed working so much that after a brief retirement, he decided to go back to work part time at Squamish Toyota.

Cy enjoyed Motown and smooth jazz, Canadian beer, Crown Royal whiskey, and fish & chips. The best times of his life were spending time with family and friends, going mushroom picking, on fishing trips, and yearly trips to Las Vegas. He will be missed by everyone he touched with his kindness and warm presence.

Private services will be held with family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
