Obituary for Sharleen Anne Sutherland

Sharleen Anne Sutherland
Sept 4, 1941 - June 29, 2018

Sharleen was a beautiful, vibrant, expressive woman that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. Passed away peacefully at the age of 77. Battled courageously with cancer. Predecessed by Kathleen and Donald Sutherland, Alf Arneson, former husband and Jim Ritson, dear friend and companion.

Loved and missed by siblings Kathy (Dale Macaulay) Sutherland and Stan (Judy) Sutherland, and children Glen (Laura) Arneson, Karen (Darren) Fischer and grandchildren Chloë and Seth Arneson and Danielle Fischer.

Our “Gamma” as she likes to be called by her grandchildren, “Shar” as she was called by family and close friends was an amazing wife, mom, granddaughter, grandmother and friend.

Sharleen’s large circle of family and friends will remember her as an individual who always treated others with kindness, warmth, and brutal honesty. Her spirited personality, natural curiosity, and sense of adventure led her to many travels around the world and locally with dear friends and family. She traveled extensively.

Sharleen had a flair with fashion and home decoration and design. Her home was impeccable.

Sharleen often entertained and hosted dinner parties, appetizer night and wine Wednesday. Never a dull conversation during family gatherings at the dinner table. Sharleen was a engaging and animated conversationalist. She truly considered herself lucky to have such great family and friends.

Sharleen worked as a Psychiatric Nurse at Riverview Hospital, Coquitlam and as an Administrator/ Manager for the Government of Canada. She actively volunteered at the Coquitlam Community Policing Office and Place des Arts during her retirement years and went on daily walks with “Ami, Ami, Ami” with her close circle of friends and four legged companions.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter or charity of your choice in Sharleen’s name.

Special thanks to the staff at 3 South at Royal Columbian Hospital and family and friends who supported and stayed by her side until her passing.

No funeral or memorial service will be held at this time by request. Sharleen asked that you raise a glass and toast in her honour and memory.
