Obituary for Steven John Mawhinney

Steven John Mawhinney, age 36, passed away suddenly at his home in Coquitlam, BC on April 5, 2021. Recently he struggled with depression and unfortunately due to COVID he was unable to access the help he so desperately needed.

Steven was born July 12, 1984 in Richmond BC. He also resided in Kamloops, Calgary and Prince George. He worked as an electrician, most recently with Bert’s Electric, who were so very supportive.

He is survived by his mother and father, Lisa and Craig, brother Ryan, grandmother Inge Larsen, grandfather John Mawhinney, Uncle Kim Larsen, Aunt Lynda Ecclestone and husband Allan, cousins Matthew, Eric and Ian. He also leaves behind many friends and his beloved dog Kona.

Steve was a talented electrician, he enjoyed playing guitar, he loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He was kind and caring and volunteered helping others especially with AA. His ashes will be scattered at Bonaparte Lake, a place he loved to spend time with his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a mental health charity or the SPCA would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be held later when gatherings can occur.
