Obituary for Sylvia Doris Martin

Sylvia Doris Martin (Stockwood)

May 8th 1943 – January 22nd 2022

Loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Sylvia Martin was born in 1943 in Conception Bay, Newfoundland. She is the daughter of Herb and Ella and sister to Jack Stockwood, Lou Feltham, Roy Stockwood, Blanche Rutledge, Herb Stockwood, and Cynthia Conners.

Sylvia married Wilf on November 15th 1962. They created many wonderful memories together in their 51 years of marriage. Wilf passed away on September 12th 2013.

Sylvia and Wilf started their family in Calgary, Alberta by welcoming Will Martin in January of 1964. Will became a brother, in February 1965, as they welcomed Carolyn Pauls to the family. In March of 1967 the family grew once again, with the wonderful addition of David Martin. In 1970 the family decided to start a new journey together by moving to beautiful British Columbia. They set roots in a home in Port Coquitlam that would be the spot of countless memories to come. The family received fantastic news with the surprise addition of Daryl Martin in 1973. Later in her life, Sylvia was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Sylvia was a compassionate, thoughtful, gentle, generous woman. She had room in her heart for every person she encountered. Sylvia spent countless hours watching over God’s children and spreading His love – in her home, at Sunday School, Woman’s Bible Study, and much more. She loved hosting family dinners and gatherings. She was quite the cook! Sylvia loved spending time with her family, whether it was singing in the car on her way to 100 Mile House, cooking roast beef lunches after church, or picnicking in the local parks, you couldn’t help but smile when you were around her.
