Obituary for Terence Daniel "Terry" Navin

Terry was born on February 25 1946 in Newry, Northern Ireland to parents Rose and Edmund Navin. He was the second of 4 children. Older brother Paul, and two sisters Mary and Shiela. When he finished school he started working for Newry Mineral delivering and selling “refreshments” to pubs all around Ireland. Likely this is where Terry honed his legendary wit and personality. His first of two sons, Leo, was born in 1971, followed by Stephen in 1972. Not quite Irish twins but within a couple of months of it. It was around this time Terry started the first Auto-glym franchise in Northern Ireland, and his first taste of small business ownership began. He ran the company until 1974, and then Canada started calling. The tales of natural beauty and high paying work were too much to resist. With little money in his pocket, he found himself in Winnipeg Manitoba. He quickly found a job in Northern Manitoba. Having saved up some money he decided it might be time to go back home to his young family, but decided to drive out to Vancouver to see the Rockies before heading home. When he arrived in Vancouver he was awestruck by the natural beauty of the place and the opportunities it provided. He brought his young family over in 1976 and there they remained.

Terry became a fixture at The Blarney Stone in Gastown, rarely missing a Saturday night. It was there that he met many of his lifelong friends, including the Love of his life Marian. He started Naburn Auto Body in Surrey in 1978, where he worked tirelessly to support his family. In 1985, he along with Marian and the two boys moved to Warrick Street in Coquitlam. The Warrick street gang was born. They became lifelong friends having countless parties, going on trips and sharing many late nights and happy memories!

In 1995, at the age of 49, Terry decided he needed a change of career. He put everything he had on the line to purchase a new and entirely different business. He purchased Can Craft Steering, a struggling steering gear company and then along with his son Stephen spent the next 25 years building it into the largest and most respected company of its kind in British Columbia.

Terry loved many things in life. He had many boats over the years, and enjoyed fishing, photography and travel. He has literally seen the world in his 74 short years. It’s fair to say however, that there is nothing he loved more than spending time with friends and family. He had a wit and personality that will never be matched or forgotten. He made everyone around him laugh, and brought happiness to the lives of everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife Marian, sons Leo and Stephen, their wives Ida and Christina, along with 3 grandchildren Justin, Brandon and Kayleigh.

Rest in peace Granda, you are forever loved and will never be forgotten.
