Obituary for William Edgar Pearson

Print
William (Bill) Edgar Pearson DFC BSA
April 18, 1922 – October 15, 2018

Our family sadly announces the passing of our beautiful Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. William was predeceased by his wife, Ina, of 64 years, and his Mother and Father, Violet and Norman. Left mourning his loss are three Sons, Bob (Shirley), Andy (Margaret), Glen (Janice), 6 Grandchildren, and 10 Great Grandchildren.

Bill joined the second world war effort with the RCAF in 1941 and flew in over 37 missions, earning him Flight Lieutenant status and many decorations including the DFC. Bill was shot down in 1944 and became a POW until the end of the war. In 2016, France awarded Bill the rank of “Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honor”, the highest national order of France. After the war, Bill returned home to Canada and married the love of his life, Ina. Bill then graduated with honors from UBC with a BSA degree.

Bill began a career with Lucky Lager, a subsidiary of Labatts, in 1951. There he soon became a master brewer and held many top executive positions during his 33 year career. In retirement, Bill got into flying and took his Cessna on many trips across Canada and into the US and Mexico.

Bill’s life touched thousands of people and no one could forget him. He laughed easily, had a straight forward and honest approach, and needed the same in return. His quick wit and caring nature kept his friends and family ever close over the years. Bill was a dog lover, historian, and had a focus on everything happening in our world and at 96, he followed his friends and the world on his desktop, daily. He was a lifetime learner.

Bill lived his life to the fullest and cared deeply for everyone in it. The sun shines a little less brightly with Bill’s passing.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses that cared for Bill in his final days at the Eagle Ridge Hospital.

As Bill had requested, he has been cremated. There will be a celebration of his life at Burquitlam Funeral Home on November 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
