Obituary for William Watoong Tham

It is with great sadness that we announce that William Watoong Tham passed away on November 10, 2020 at the age of 84.

Born in Kaiping, Guangdong, China, the eldest of nine children, William grew up in India and eventually moved to Canada, where he resided for over 40 years.

William will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joann; his daughter, Elizabeth (Trevor); his surviving siblings and their families; and his friends.

A skilled marine electrician by trade, William travelled the world and had many adventures. He loved animals of all sorts, including birds, fish, cats, and pandas. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking, impressing friends and family with his green thumb and delicious curry.

Dad always had a can-do attitude and was grateful for every day of life. Throughout his courageous battle with cancer, he was unfailing in his care and consideration for others. Dad will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help.

The family thanks the amazing staff at Crossroads Hospice in Port Moody for their care, compassion, and support.

A service will not be held at this time, but a Celebration of Life will take place when it is safe to gather freely to share food and stories.

In honour of Dad’s memory, please consider making a donation to charity (such as the BCSPCA, BC Children’s Hospital, or the Crossroads Hospice Society) or gifting someone with an act of kindness.
