In Loving Memory of Andy Wan
Andy Wan was born on March 23, 1949, in Hong Kong, into a large family. He was the eleventh of thirteen children, growing up alongside twelve siblings. From a young age, he had a passion for sports. During his high school years, he was a key player on his soccer team, which won many games. The team often practiced in the evenings, and Andy, who lived the farthest from the field, would take multiple buses and ferry rides just to attend practice — a testament to his dedication.
Later in life, Andy continued his love for sports by regularly playing ping pong at the Vancouver Table Tennis Club.
Andy was known for his generous spirit and compassion for others. He often went above and beyond to support friends in need — even spending nights in the hospital to help care for their loved ones.
Family was also central to Andy’s life. He lived with and cared for his mother during her final years, lovingly tending to her every need.
In 1970, Andy moved to Alberta, Canada, to begin his college studies. Two years later, he transferred to Dalhousie University in Halifax, where he earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. After graduating, he settled in Vancouver.
In 1980, Andy began working as a back-end computer operator at a credit union, where he remained for 32 years until his retirement in 2012.
Andy’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He was baptized in 1979 and faithfully attended church. He exemplified the qualities of a true Christian — his life radiated love, joy, and peace.
He often described the decade following his retirement, from 2012 to 2022, as the best years of his life. Free from work, he spent time doing the things he loved: helping friends, enjoying sports like swimming and ping pong, and savoring good food.
In 2010, Andy was diagnosed with liver cancer. Fortunately, it was caught early and successfully treated with surgery, giving him ten cancer-free years. Sadly, the cancer returned in 2020. On April 15, 2025, Andy passed away peacefully, now safe in the arms of Jesus.
