Anne Friesen
Anne Friesen (Penner), aged 97, peacefully passed away, with loved ones at her side January 18, 2014. She was born in the Ukraine, the tenth of twelve siblings, all of which have predeceased her. At the age of 9 she immigrated with her family to Canada settling in Manitoba. Her father Gerhard and step-mother Katherina passed away in Anne’s teenage years.
Mom (Anne) and Dad (Jake) were married in 1941 and had 62 years of married life before Jake’s passing in 2004. She is survived by her sons: Ernest (Beth), Richard (Dorothy), Allen (Merilee), her grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer), Trevor, Erin, Stephen(Erin), James, Rachelle(Peter), Michael, and Jordan, and her great grandchildren, Cadon, Laine, Scarlett, Stella, Evangeline, and Hazel.
Anne was an energetic, active person. She loved to walk, swim, exercise, garden, bake, and play games. She and Jake loved to adventure together, making trips to Europe, Middle East, Central America and many RV tours through Canada and the US. Through her hard work it was evident how deeply she cared about her family and living an exemplary life of faith in God. She read the Bible daily memorizing many portions of it, and prayed diligently for all in her family as a routine. She had a gift for hospitality and loved welcoming guests into her home. The grandchildren fondly remember times spent with her playing games and enjoying delicious homemade treats that she always baked for them. Anne appreciated beauty in the world around her and used her creative gifts and love to make the world more beautiful. She had a special heart for others whether family, friends, neighbours, or those who needed a listening ear. She lived a life of simplicity, contentedness and thankfulness. Her faith, trust and hope in Jesus was the most important thing in her life. We celebrate the long beautiful life she was given, the memories and the Godly influence she has left with all of us.
A memorial service will be held for Anne at 10:30AM on February 1st at Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship in Coquitlam, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), or World Vision Canada.
