Anne Elizabeth Scott (nee Short)

It is with love, gratitude and profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Anne Elizabeth Scott on Aug 7, 2026, at the age of 95 years. Predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Lieutenant Commander Patrick Antony Scott (Tony), brother in-law Peter and grandson Infant Mathew, she leaves behind her children David (Kathy), Joanne (Damian), Susan, Victoria (Darren); her grandchildren Bryan (Stephanie), Lindsay (Colin), Carolyn (Ryan), Andrew (Shams), Brad (Janeen), Jill, Emily, Ila, Anna (Matt), Oliver; and great grandchildren Parker, Maya, Ben, Milena, Sydney, Lola, Jett and baby Aya.

Anne was born and raised in Bermuda where she graduated from the Bermuda High School and became a champion swimmer, excelled at tennis and found her passion for the theater. In 1948 she was chosen to represent Canada at the 1948 International Girl Guide Camp held in Perry Sound which was a huge honour and source of pride.

Anne married on July 27, 1951, and became a Canadian naval officer’s wife and mother in 1954. Over the years, she lived in England, California, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Washington D.C. and British Columbia, where her family eventually settled and where she remained for the rest of her life.

Before marrying and having children, Anne trained and worked as a legal secretary. She enjoyed working and re-entered the workforce as the Office Manager / Medical Office Assistant for a very busy medical practice in Burnaby in the mid 1970’s.

Anne and Tony enjoyed dancing and travelling. They were very active members in the Glenayre Scottish Country Dancing group where they made many lifelong friends and attended numerous formal dances. Their travels began in England when Tony retired. Anne continued to travel to numerous places around the world with friends for many more years after Tony passed.

In the 1990’s Anne competed at the 55+ BC Seniors Games in the sport of table tennis. Over the years, she dominated the field as a player winning 3 gold medals.

Anne’s passion for acting continued to grow throughout her life. She found time to hone her amateur acting skills while caring for her family and it was as a member of Coquitlam’s Dogwood Pavilion Seniors’ Society theater group that her abilities as an actress shined. She appeared in a major role in over 18 productions all of which were attended by members of her family. A family favourite was when she played a German cook with a very strong accent and demonstrated her incredible ability to truly become the character she played.

Throughout her adult life Anne volunteered numerous hours as a Girl Guide Leader and Commissioner, as a founding member of the Burquitlam Grief Recovery Society and Friends of the Coquitlam Public Library Society (of which she became the President), as a church warden, lector and a member of the alter guild and women's groups as well as a member of the Advisory Board of Coquitlam’s Dogwood Pavilion Seniors Society to name a few. She was an active board member of her building’s strata council and member of the Women’s Club.

Anne loved to read, play bridge and knit. She belonged to several book clubs and regularly attended the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts. Anne played bridge with numerous bridge groups over her lifetime, and she played her final game of bridge just a few weeks before she passed. Being able to knit items for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was very important to her. It gave her much pleasure to be able to give them something that she had made especially for them.

Many who knew Anne would say she was a lovely lady. Anne was in fact a true lady and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed by all and loved forever.

A Memorial Service with Holy Communion to honour Anne’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on September 12, 2026, at The King of Life Lutheran Church in Coquitlam with refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to The King of Life Lutheran Church or the BC Cancer Society in Anne’s name would be greatly appreciated.
