Benard (Bernie) Christian DECHANT
July 5, 1937 - February 12, 2015.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bernie Dechant in Langley, B.C. Bernie is survived by his wife, Betty and daughters Bernadette (John) and Charlene; Brothers Michael, Leo (Joyce), Edward (Cathy), Richard (Gloria), Hubert (Irene), and Sister Cecilia (Carl). Brother-in-law Norm and Sister-in-law Lil. He was also well-loved by numerous nieces, nephews and relatives throughout Canada and the United States. Bernie was retired from the RCMP and CSIS. He spent his retirement years travelling with Betty, woodworking, picture framing and taking the occasional quarters from his friends Larry and Joe during their many cribbage games. Bernie was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and assisted in their many charitable works. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff who have assisted with Bernie’s care over the last few years particularly the doctors, nurses and staff at Arbutus Place in Langley. You all provided great compassion and care to Bernie. On a daily basis you make a positive difference in the lives of patients and family members and need to be recognized for your great service. Thank You.
Funeral prayers will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church 3141 Shaughnessy St., Port Coquitlam, B.C. on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow for friends and family to celebrate Bernie’s life.
