William "Bill" Nicol
Aug 24, 1935 -July 2, 2020

With heavy hearts & fond memories we are saddened to announce the passing of Bill.
Son of Ivy and John Nicol of Port Moody, Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Carol of 60 years, and brothers, John, Daniel & Patrick. Survived by his three children, Lorrie (Leo), Marilyn (Steve), son Daryl, and four grandchildren, Rebecca (Jay), Vanessa (Ty), Nicole and Katrina, along with his two great grandchildren Connor & Brooklynn. Bill worked for Imperial Oil in Ioco for 36 years where he made many lifetime friends. He loved to play baseball when he was young but had to give it up because of a devastating neurological disorder known as Narcolepsy with Cataplexy which only affects 0.02% of the population. This caused sudden and uncontrollable muscle paralysis which was triggered by strong emotions causing him to collapse. He spent a lifetime trying to hide his disability so that people wouldn't treat him differently. So he turned his love of playing baseball into coaching. Bill and his family spent many memorable summers on Shuswap lake at their cabin as well as traveling around the world with his wife Carol. Bill volunteered at the Noonscreek hatchey and funded a bursary each year for students through collecting thousands of cans and bottles along the trails near the hatchery. Students that were going to pursue careers in environmental sciences benefited from Bill’s generosity and hard work. Bill was the recipient of the Port Moody Civic award for his environmental work and was a valued and well liked community member.

We are thankful we were allowed to say our final goodbyes as covid stole the many daily visits we would have shared over the many months that we were kept apart.

Due to Covid, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donations be made to the Port Moody Ecological Society (Noons Creek Hatchery).
