We lovingly remember Brenda whose spirit departed us on December 31st, 2024, forever cherished by her family and friends. Devoted wife to Ronald; loving mother to Amanda and Stephanie; kindhearted mother-in-law to Roger and Maumar; adored Gramma to Ethan, Isla, Shiloh, Cedella and Kaylee; caring sister to Carol, Yvonne, Wilfred, Gem, Lorleen, Eton and Sandra (d. 2011); thoughtful aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and friend to so many.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana (March 23rd, 1951), Brenda immigrated to the UK when she was 10 years old. In 1976, after 15 years in England, she relocated to Canada which became her home for the rest of her life.
At the age of 16 she discovered a calling towards nursing and successfully pursued it as a career, helping countless others until her retirement at age 60. In retirement she followed her passions by taking up gardening, travelling, keeping fit and singing in the church choir. She displayed a constant desire to learn throughout retirement and continued her education by studying piano and enrolling in the music program at Douglas College.
Throughout her life, Brenda always put others ahead of herself. As a mentor to many nursing students, she generously shared her vast knowledge and experience. She volunteered locally and at an orphanage in Guyana for months at a time. Brenda once said, “I believe giving is the secret to happiness in my life.” She exemplified and lived this in everything she did.
A special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at Royal Columbian Hospital, Queen’s Park Care Centre, and the BC Cancer Agency.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the BC Mental Health Foundation or charity of your choice.
