Carole Lauraine Breker

November 17, 1940 — February 18, 2026

Port Coquitlam

It is with great sadness that the family of Carole Lauraine Breker announce her passing on the afternoon of February 18th, 2026, at 85 years of age.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1940, Carole was the only child of Anne and Harry Cook. During her early years, Carole’s family owned racehorses and would travel to competitions throughout Canada and the US. Sadly, her father developed a long-term illness, which eventually led them to relocate to Victoria in 1952, where he sadly passed the following year. Carole and her mom, Anne, who she loved dearly, stayed in Victoria and built a new life there.

During high school, Carole worked at the local travel bureau and, after graduation, worked in the Parliament Buildings doing administration for the land surveying department. Carole was married in 1961 and had her daughter Carla in 1965. Sadly, the marriage did not last. She then met and married the love of her life, Ron Breker, in 1969. She and Ron moved to Colwood the following year, where they had their son Steven, and then moved to Coquitlam in 1972, where they bought their dream home and completed their family by having their daughter, Terri, in 1975.

Named after movie stars Carole Lombard and Laraine Day, Carole loved television and film. She adored Doris Day, particularly the movie Calamity Jane, and Julie Andrews, especially in the Sound of Music. You’ve Got Mail and A League of Their Own were her other favourite films. She also enjoyed a good laugh and loved TV sitcoms, especially I Love Lucy, Carol Burnett, Everybody Loves Raymond, and The Golden Girls.

Carole enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing, painting, and ceramics. The family home was always decorated with many of her amazing ceramic pieces. She was also a great bowler, often winning high-scoring trophies and frequently out-bowling Ron, and was always up for a game of cards, spending countless nights playing and laughing with long-time friends.

Carole and Ron loved watching or attending sporting events, whether it was Terri’s softball and hockey games, going to BC Lions games when Terri worked with them for over 15 years, or attending Vancouver Canucks games for the decades that they were season tickets holders. They also loved to go camping, putting many miles on their beloved truck and trailer, travelling from BC to Saskatchewan, Washington to Oregon, even down to Arizona, always with their cats in tow. They had a number of cats over the years – Spooky, Patches and Smokey, and finally Moey and Mitzie – who they loved and doted on.

Carole was a very kind, loving, supportive, and caring person, always putting others first and always more impressed with how nice someone was above anything else. She was very social and loved nothing more than to chat and visit with the many friends she’d made over the years. In their retirement years, her and Ron enjoyed spending their afternoons at Tim Hortons to visit with their “coffee friends” and going out for dinner to their favourite local restaurants.

After sharing 52 years of memories in their cherished family home and neighbourhood, Carole and Ron moved into Mayfair Gardens Assisted Living in Port Coquitlam in 2024, where they lived out their remaining years, making new friends and memories along the way.

Carole is pre-deceased by her husband Ron (May 2025) and is survived by her three children, Carla (Larry Ethier) Kelly, Steve (Nanette) Breker, and Terri Breker, and five grandchildren, Lauren, Noah, Eli, Josef, and Samuel. Carole cared deeply for her family and loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her roles as a wife, Mom, and 'Nana' were what she was most proud of. Carole was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
