Charles Manuel Ambrosio Araujo, known by friends and family as Charlie, was born on November 2, 1950 in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal. As a young man, he immigrated to Canada and grew up with his father, mother, and four siblings in the city of Kimberley, British Columbia.
Charlie was, is, and always will be a shining example of devotion, kindness, and love—a husband, father, and friend unlike any other. His love for his wife, Phyllis, was immeasurable, and for 24 years, they built a life filled with unwavering commitment. After her passing, he honored her wishes with profound strength and selflessness, dedicating himself to raising their four sons with boundless love and care. Through his sacrifices and enduring love, their legacy lives on, and Charlie and Phyllis will forever be united in heaven.
Charlie was a master of his craft, an artisan with a profound connection to tools. His work was more than a profession—it was his passion, his gift, and his way of enriching the lives of others. Whether for family, friends, or colleagues, he used his skills to solve problems, ease burdens, and uplift those around him. His wealth of knowledge and desire to empower others made him a source of comfort and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Fondly known as “Million-Dollar Charlie,” his impact was vast, touching countless lives in ways that will never be forgotten. Charlie will be forever remembered with love and gratitude.
Charlie is survived by his four sons Daniel (Hye-Kyung), Kevin (Natalie), James (Samantha), and Vincent (Lisa); his grandchildren, Lucia and Logan; his sister, Marie Bergeron, and her daughter, Shelley; and his brothers, Victor (Kathy) Araujo and Mario (Nancy) Araujo. Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Araujo; his parents, Manuel and Maria Araujo; his sister, Agnes Araujo; and his brother-in-law, Brian Bergeron.
Memorial donations may be made to the Coquitlam Animal Shelter in honor of Charlie’s love for animals, “for those who have no voice”.
A private celebration of Charlie’s life will take place at a later date.
