Known as Dave to friends, Dee to family, he will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years Heather (Cupples); his daughters Beverley Dakin (Dan Field) and Debbie Dakin (Len Webster); the great joy of his life, his grandsons Zachary and Cameron Webster; his sister Melanie (Richard) Nix; sister-in-law Lynn Dakin, brother-in-law Barry (Gwen) Cupples, sister-in law Joyce (Dave) Leyden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents David D. and Mabel (Bakken) Dakin, and his younger brother Norman Dakin.
Dave did his senior high school years at Mount Baker in Cranbrook, BC and received his BA at SFU, and BSW at UBC. In his varied careers he was a commercial pilot, a flying instructor, and a social worker, achieving respect from his students, co-workers, clients, and foster children.
Dave and Heather built a beautiful home at Big Bar Lake in the Cariboo and near retirement moved there full-time, enjoying a community of new friends. Family and friends will long treasure the memories of wonderful summer gatherings shared at the lake over the years.
His generous spirit will be missed by many.
