Dave passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years. Dave was blessed with a long and happy life. He immigrated to Canada from England with his wife Pat in 1952. Dave had a passion for motorcycles from an early age and they were always a large part of his life. He also returned to England in his 30’s to race at the Isle of Man where he won the Junior TT team award in 1961 and 1962. Returning to Canada, in 1966, Dave started Cariboo Motorcycles in Burnaby, then Port Moody . It was a very successful business which with his wife Pat and his sons John and Ashley they operated for 44 years.
Dave was the first president of the Westwood Motorcycle Racing Club and spent many happy Sunday’s racing at Westwood in Coquitlam. During his racing years he won multiple motorsports awards, (both solo motorcycle and sidecar). In 1997,Dave was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in Toronto. In 2002, he was inducted into the Greater Vancouver Motorsport Pioneers Society .Then in 2010, Dave was inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Proud moments and well deserved recognition for a man who was very modest about his many accomplishments.
Dave was always a generous and happy man. He cared deeply about his family. There were Easter egg hunts, fish and chips and cricket on the back lawn, as well as Sunday motorcycle rides into the valley. -So many good memories!
Over the years, Dave & Pat also enjoyed many travels together including to Mexico, New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, Europe and numerous cruises. Dave always had a beautiful smile and a kind word for everyone.
Dave was predeceased by his eldest son John, in June 2020. He is survived by his wife Pat, his son Ashley, his daughter-in-law Helen, his grandsons Matt and David and three great-granddaughters Isla, Charlotte and Chloe.
A life well lived. We will miss him very much but we know that he is at peace and with his son John. Memorial arrangements are still to be determined.
