Donald Thomson Brown

November 8, 1954 — December 25, 2025

Port Moody

It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Thomson Brown. Known as “Brun Dog” to his EE ’79 group and “DB” to his many friends, Don will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife of 39 years, Pam; his three children, Andrew, Wesley, and Katrina; and his beloved “mini-me” granddaughter, Hayden. He is also survived by his sisters Lori Brown (Clarke) step-niece Jestene (Darren) Johnston and Marilyn Scott (Donald); nephews Duncan Scott and Calum (Aynah) Scott; and his very best friend of almost 60 years, Kim Fordyce (Sue), who was with him to the very end—thank you.

Don would want his many friends to know how highly he thought of each of you.

Don began his career in sawmills- Carroll, Hatch & Associates Ltd and Anthony Seaman. before moving into the oil and gas industry. He worked with PNG, FortisBC (where he retired), Stantec, and also taught at BCIT, before returning to FortisBC once more. He finally stopped working just over a year ago ??—Don always liked to stay busy.

He was a dedicated Cub Leader and Commissioner with Scouts in Port Moody for many years, during and after his children’s involvement. At UBC, Don served as the social coordinator for his Electrical Engineering class of ’79, a role he carried forward for decades by organizing milestone reunions and ongoing lunch and beer gatherings. He also organized the legendary “Beers and BS” meetups for former colleagues he worked with over the years.

As a family man, Don kept just as busy. He loved camping, hiking, biking, boating, walking the dog, planning road trips, traveling, or simply just “doing stuff.” Being active and connected—to people, places, and life—was at the heart of who he was.
